On the basis of provisional outturn figures for 2006, the total amount paid by my Department for car mileage expenses last year was €765,164.88. A total of €101,115.59 was paid in respect of all other modes of transport, including the cost of taxis as well as buses and trains, both in Ireland and abroad. Rail and bus ticket expenses were not identified separately by my Department in 2006.
