Question 446: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Health Service Executive southern area terminated assistance towards transport costs for persons (details supplied) in County Cork, who have to travel regularly to Dublin with their seven year old son for treatment due to the fact they cannot get the treatment in the Cork area and that they were receiving the assistance towards the travel costs until Christmas 2006 but it has since been terminated on the grounds of income despite the fact that the person is unemployed and their spouse is in receipt of a carer's allowance. Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services is a matter for the Health Service Executive and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall Vote. Therefore, the Executive is the appropriate body to consider the particular case raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
