Question 291: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason the contracts in respect of maintenance of central heating at a premises (details supplied) in County Kildare is not satisfactory, in view of the fact that general provision is made for this and other houses in the vicinity funded by his Department through Kildare County Council; if he has in mind proposals to ensure that items such as central heating in local authority houses are reliable and meet specific standards and requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The management and maintenance of rented dwellings is the responsibility of the local authority concerned. I understand that a voluntary body manages this property on behalf of the housing authority and has received notice of the complaint.
