While my Department does not have precise information on the number of wild deer in County Wicklow, estimates suggest a figure in excess of 40,000 animals.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service of my Department is planning a national deer survey in 2008, which should give a clearer picture of wild deer population density at regional and national level.
