Question 281: To ask the Minister for Health and Children her plans, in view of the fact that one in six beds at Beaumont Hospital is occupied by patients waiting for long-term care or discharge, for this group of patients; if she will introduce a sixth discharge initiative, following the previous five discharge initiatives between August 2005 and December 2006; if this represents value for money; and her views on whether this is the long term solution for patients in Beaumont Hospital awaiting long term care or discharge. Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services was assigned to the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004 and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall vote. Therefore, the Executive is the appropriate body to consider the particular issues raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
