Question 481: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if, in relation to the regulation of charities, An Taisce is registered as a charity; if his attention has been drawn to whether An Taisce accepts donations on behalf of other organisations; the legal status of such an arrangement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There is currently no register of charities. I understand, however, that An Taisce appears on the list of organisations which have obtained exemption from payment of certain taxes from the Revenue Commissioners and that this list is sometimes referred to as a register of charities. However, I have no role in relation to this list.
As the Deputy will be aware, in line with a commitment in the Agreed Programme for Government, work is under way on a Bill to regulate the charities sector. It is expected that this Bill will be published in the current Dáil session.
