I am pleased to inform the Deputy that facilities for the teaching of children with autism were included in the new school building in question and are now in operation.

Question 1749: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the action she has taken to facilitate the operation of the special autism unit at a school (details supplied) in County Kildare; when the unit will become fully operational; if staffing and other outstanding issues have been fully resolved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am familiar with the staffing and other issues in the school referred to by the Deputy.

I have requested that the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) formally submit to my Department an up to date report on the situation with recommendations on how to proceed.
