Question 1544: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if she will examine the possibility of having an extra school bus provided to facilitate the children at a school (details supplied) in County Galway which is situated in an isolated area of declining population where the current school bus arrangements are not satisfactory leaving young pupils waiting considerable lengths for transport as pupils come from a wide catchment area to this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Bus Éireann operates the school transport service on behalf of my Department. Routes are planned in such a way as to ensure that, as far as possible, eligible pupils have a reasonable standard of service, while at the same time, ensuring that school transport vehicles are fully utilised in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Bus Éireann have advised my Department that the pupils from the areas concerned have a level of service within the guidelines of the school transport scheme.
