Question 1270: To ask the Minister for Transport his views on whether it is appropriate to make it an offence under the Road Traffic Act carrying a substantial disqualification penalty in addition to any criminal penalties to carry illegal drugs in a mechanically propelled vehicle; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform is responsible for legislation regarding illegal drugs. I do not consider it appropriate to amend the Road Traffic Acts in this regard.
