Question 65: To ask the Minister for Transport the discussions he has had with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government regarding a joint effort at improving road traffic and planning legislation to curtail the increasing problem of the use of large trucks of several axles to deliver to small neighbourhood shops; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Statutory responsibility for decisions in relation to the implementation of traffic management measures rests with each individual road authority and similarly the application of planning law is a matter for each planning authority. I have not had discussions with my colleague, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government on the issue referred to by the Deputy because these are matters that are being pursued at local level rather than at Ministerial level.
