I propose to take Questions Nos. 181 to 184, inclusive, together.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the number and estimated value of seizures of heroin and cocaine in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, North Division, which includes the Garda Districts of Santry, Coolock and Raheny for the years 2001 to 2005 are as shown in Tables 1 and 2. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the number of proceedings commenced and convictions recorded for drug offences in the Garda Division of DMR North for the years 2001-2005 is as follows:

Year 2001 — 413 proceedings commenced, 241 convictions

Year 2002 — 595 proceedings commenced, 250 convictions

Year 2003 — 608 proceedings commenced, 236 convictions

Year 2004 — 609 proceedings commenced, 195 convictions

Year 2005 — 1,171 proceedings commenced, 288 convictions.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that information relating to the number of arrests made for a specific type of drug is not readily available and it would require a disproportionate expenditure of Garda time and resources to research each case manually to provide such data.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 185 to 188, inclusive, together.

I have been informed by An Garda Síochána that table 1 below shows the number and estimated value of seizures of heroin in the Garda District of Coolock, which includes Coolock, Malahide and Swords Garda stations, for the years 2001 to 2005. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the number of proceedings commenced and convictions recorded for drug offences in the Garda District of Coolock for the years 2001-2005 is as follows. The Swords area is contained in the Coolock Garda District.

Year 2001 — 174 proceedings commenced, 103 convictions

Year 2002 — 236 proceedings commenced, 90 convictions

Year 2003 — 258 proceedings commenced, 116 convictions

Year 2004 — 278 proceedings commenced, 98 convictions

Year 2005 — 655 proceedings commenced, 163 convictions.

The statistics provided include drug offences such as possession, supply, importation and cultivation. Information relating to the number of arrests made for a specific type of drug is not readily available.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that it would require a disproportionate expenditure of Garda time and resources to research each case manually in an attempt to identify the drug type involved in the drug offence recorded or arrest made. Data in relation to the number of cocaine seizures in the Swords area over the period in question is not readily available within the timeframe for answering Parliamentary Questions. I will revert to you when this information is to hand.
