In May 2003 my Department initiated its Radon Gas Programme. This involved a survey of buildings and military installations which I have responsibility for. To date the majority of the locations have been tested. Inspections are carried out in accordance with criteria set down by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) and The Health and Safety Authority (HSA). Some testing is still ongoing as a result of updated information provided by the (RPII).

All new build and refurbishment projects undertaken by my Department meet the requirements of the Building Regulations therefore catering for the gathering and dispersion of radon gas in the structure of the building.
