Question 402: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if her attention has been drawn to the necessity to replace existing prefab classrooms at a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that this progressive 600 student school is situated in the centre of a fast growing population base and can expect its student numbers to grow in the next few years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. An application for an extension has been received from the school to which the Deputy refers.

An assessment of projected enrolments, demographic trends and housing developments in the area, is currently underway in my Department and will assist in determining the long term projected enrolment for the school on which the school's long term accommodation needs will be based. When the long-term projected enrolment has been finalised and agreed with the school authorities my Department will draw up schedules of accommodation for the project which will be considered in the context of the School Building and Modernisation Programme 2006-2010.

The school has also submitted an application for funding under the Permanent Accommodation Scheme 2007. The application will be assessed by my officials and the list of successful applicants for the scheme will be published as soon as possible.
