Question 362: To ask the Minister for Transport if he will afford Kerry mountain rescue the same protection as the Garda under the Garda Compensation Act 1941 in order that it can carry out its work with adequate insurance cover; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [39344/06]

Members of An Garda Síochána are State employees who receive State protection under the 1941 Act, whereas Mountain Rescue Team members are private persons who volunteer Search and Rescue assistance. However, insurance cover is an eligible expenditure for grant aid to Mountain Rescue Teams.
