Question 303: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the charges which will apply in 2007 at public hospitals for attending accident and emergency or outpatients, for staying a night in a public ward, for staying in a semi-private bed and for staying in a private bed. [39689/06]

The statutory inpatient and outpatient charges will remain unchanged in 2007. In-patient charges will remain at €60 per day up to a maximum of 10 days [€600] payment in any 12-month period. The outpatient charge will remain at €60 for any visit to a designated accident and emergency facility if attendance is not accompanied by a letter of referral from a GP.

I am considering the level of increase in charges for private and semi-private beds in public hospitals and will make an announcement on that shortly.
