In 2004, my Department in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland undertook a programme for checking for the presence of Radon Gas in all buildings occupied by members of staff. The results from the testing programme found that in all cases Radon levels in the buildings surveyed were well within the safety limit as laid down by the Radiological Protection Act, 1991.

Testing for Radon Gas will be undertaken in my Department's recently occupied offices in the Central Business Park, Clonminch, Tullamore Co. Offaly, I understand, however, that the area in which the offices are located is rated in the lowest risk category as regards radon gas emissions.
