Question 548: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the status of an application for a new building for a school (details supplied) in County Waterford; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that her Department assured the board of management that the necessary approval to appoint a design team would be given over a month ago; the reason for the delay in giving that approval; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm that the Department is in receipt of an application for major capital funding from the management authority of the school to which the Deputy refers. The application has been assessed in accordance with published prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects and has been assigned a Band 2 rating.

The long term projected staffing for the school is currently being assessed to properly plan for the schools long term accommodation needs. The school authority is well aware of this position. Once this matter has been finalised, the project can be considered for progress under the School Building and Modernisation Programme from 2007 onwards.
