Question 436: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the report published by UCD in October 2006 the nature and impact of joy-riding in Priorswood Report to the Priorswood Task Force on Joy-riding and the report's recommendation that the joy-riding issue be considered within a concerted approach by local government and local development agencies and the RAPID programme, and that this be done within a wider context of developing local anti-poverty and social inclusion measures; and the steps he will to take to give affect to this recommendation. This is a matter primarily for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

The Deputy will be aware that under the RAPID Leverage Schemes my Department co-funded a number of measures that directly help to counter anti-social behaviour. The two main schemes in this area are the community-based CCTV scheme and the traffic-calming measures scheme. The other Leverage Schemes co-funded by my Department supports the provision of playgrounds, health centres and environmental improvements to housing estates.

The local A.I.T also have a central role to play in bringing a co-ordinated response for the statutory and voluntary and community agencies to the issues facing these communities.
