The improvement and maintenance of non-national roads in County Kildare is a matter for Kildare County Council to be funded from its own resources supplemented by State grants provided by my Department. In 2006, the total grant allocation by my Department to Kildare County Council for improvement and maintenance works on non-national roads is €26,950,874. I am satisfied that this significant level of State funding, supplemented by Kildare County Council's own resources, provides appropriately for the Council's ongoing non-national road requirements in 2006. I intend to announce non-national roads grant allocations for 2007 early next year.

Responsibility for national roads in County Kildare is a matter for Kildare County Council and the National Roads Authority which operates under the aegis of my colleague the Minister for Transport.

The improvement and realignment of non-national roads and bridges in County Kildare is a matter for Kildare County Council to be funded from its own resources supplemented by State grants provided by my Department.

In July this year, my Department sought applications from road authorities for funding under the 2007 EU Co-Financed Specific Improvements Grant Scheme. Kildare County Council submitted a number of applications but these did not include an application for funding for Bond Bridge.
