Question 227: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of speed checks carried out by the Gardaí in 2005 and to date in 2006; the number of drink driving interventions carried out by the Gardaí in 2005 and to date in 2006; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of fixed charge notices issued for speeding was 143,651 in 2005 and 152,669 in 2006 (up to 30 September). I am also informed that the number of drink driving related incidents recorded on PULSE was 13,727 in 2005 and 12,829 in 2006 (up to 30 September).
