Question 119: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the action to be taken to examine the fact that it is over seven and a half years since an inquiry was established into alleged abuse (details supplied) in County Galway and people are still waiting for results; the steps being taken to review this inquiry process; when this review will be completed; and when the report will be published. I am advised that an inquiry into allegations of abuse by former residents of the Brothers of Charity Services in the former Western Health Board area was commenced in April 1999 by that Health Board. I understand from the Health Service Executive that in September, 2005 it commenced a review of the inquiry process with a view to ensuring that the process will be completed at the earliest possible date. This review is ongoing at the present time.

I am concerned about the length of time which has elapsed since the initial inquiry commenced and I have asked the Health Service Executive to ensure that it is completed as a matter of urgency.
