In its Second Report on the Secrecy, Accuracy and Testing of the Chosen Electronic Voting System, which was published on 4 July 2006, the Commission on Electronic Voting referred to an increased need for the establishment of a single independent statutory electoral commission for Ireland. In my response to the publication of the report, I indicated that I favour the establishment of an Electoral Commission to be in place after the 2007 General Election and that I will bring forward proposals to Government in this regard.
