Question 539: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if she has been consulted by the Reception and Integration Agency or the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform regarding its decision to set up an accommodation centre for asylum seekers on a site (details supplied) in Dublin 22; if additional resources are planned to be provided in terms of teachers, language support teachers and so on; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform commenced advance consultation with my Department early last month. I understand that the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform was not in a position to consult with service providers until such time as the acquisition of the property was completed and a contract for accommodation was in place with the Reception & Integration Agency (RIA).
My Department will continue to liaise with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform on the educational needs of asylum seekers at the centre.
