The number of whole-time equivalent nurses and midwives employed in the public health service on 30 June 2006 was 35,818.47, compared with 21,163.50 on 31 December 1990. This represents an increase of 69.25% over the period.

As this is a matter for the Executive under the Health Act 2004, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have it investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
