Question 459: To ask the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if there has been an investigation or analysis of the prospect of seeking the return to Ireland of archived documents held in the UK, which are of historical significance to the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As I indicated then the National Archives of Ireland is engaged in a number of major digital publication projects. While these projects are now more advanced, they are not yet complete. When these are nearing completion, the National Archives has undertaken to investigate the possibility of a co-operative digital publication, involving those records held in the British National Archives. As I was able to facilitate the 1901 and 1911 Census Digitisation Project, I will certainly endeavour to facilitate any such co-operative programme of Kew records proposed by the National Archives of Ireland.
