The sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, allocates funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. The programme is advertised on an annual basis.

The 2007 round of the sports capital programme was advertised on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th last with a closing date for receipt of applications of 24th November next. The organisation in question is free to submit an application if they have a project that meets the programme criteria. In this regard, I should point out to the Deputy that only sporting applications will be considered for funding under the programme.

Officials in the Sports Capital Unit of my Department will give advice to prospective applicants on any aspect of the programme. However, I must point out to the Deputy that only sporting applications will be considered for funding under the sports capital programme and that the programme does not provide funding for the purchase of sites or premises.
