Question 118: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has made representations to the energy regulator with regard to the need for a revision of the proposed gas prices for 2006 and 2007 due to the recent falls in the futures market price for gas. Gas and electricity tariffs are the statutory responsibility of the Commission for Energy Regulation, under the Electricity Regulation Act, 1999 and the Gas (Interim) (Regulation) Act, 2002. I have therefore no statutory function in relation to these issues.
The Regulator is on record as confirming an openness to review tariffs in light of definitive international trends.
