Question 107: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if an application has been received by the Health Service Executive or Comhairle for the appointment of a consultant neurologist for the HSE mid-west region; if so, when a decision is expected to be made; when the post will be advertised; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Health funding for 2006 included additional funding of €3 million for the further development of neurology and neurophysiology services. This funding was provided to allow the Health Service Executive to progress further the implementation of the recommendations made by Comhairle na nOspidéal in respect of these services.

The allocation of resources and employment of consultant neurologists is a matter for the executive. Accordingly my Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
