Question 245: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if, in view of the growth in car ownership and the problems created by on street parking, he has considered relaxing the planning regulations that require planning permission if parking for more than two cars at the front or side of the house is being provided. Schedule 2, Part 1, Class 6 of the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001 provides for the exemption for landscaping and provision of hard surfaces within the curtilage of a house. The exemption for parking is limited to two cars. It was considered that a greater car parking provision could have an impact on the setting of a house and the streetscape, which should be considered by a planning authority by reference to its development plan. I have no plans to amend the Regulations in this regard.
