Question 197: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the findings of the working group established by the Health Service Executive following publication of the Pollock Report into services for people with cystic fibrosis in Ireland; the agreed proposal for the development and reconfiguration of services of cystic fibrosis patients in Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I wish to see significant improvement in the level of services available to persons with cystic fibrosis and, in this context, additional revenue funding of €4.78m was allocated in 2006 specifically for the development of services in this area. I am aware of the current deficits which are widely acknowledged and which have been identified most notably in the Pollock Report, and by the Health Service Executive Working Group on Cystic Fibrosis which is looking at this issue.

My Department is advised that the report of the Working Group is almost complete and will include recommendations in relation to a range of service improvements required for persons with CF, in particular the need to increase the level of clinical, nursing and allied health professional staffing in CF units around the country.
