Question 1458: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he proposes to introduce a grant scheme to allow local authorities to put in wood pellet burners in local authority housing; and, if so, when they will be available; and if there is a grant scheme at the present time for local authority tenants. There are no proposals at present to introduce a grant scheme for any particular type of alternative energy provision for social housing. A number of pilot projects, including some involving the use of wood pellets, have been supported by the Department and are underway at present. When these are completed and the results assessed, decisions will be made on the future direction of policy in this area.
