Question 1094: To ask the Minister for Transport his views on a pilot scheme shortly to be introduced in the UK (details supplied) which would allow hard shoulders on motorways to be opened to traffic at the most congested times of the day; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28835/06]

The hard shoulder area on our motorways is normally reserved for mechanical breakdown situations and emergency services access. I am not currently considering any change to this position.
