Question 1003: To ask the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved and granted the respite care grant in respect of the two people that they provide care to and do not receive carer's allowance for. [28682/06]

The person concerned is in receipt of Carer's Allowance in respect of two care recipients. She applied for the Respite Care Grant on 21 July 2006 in respect of an additional two care recipients.
The medical evidence in support of her application has been forwarded to the Chief Medical Advisor of my Department for consideration of medical eligibility.
On completion of the necessary investigations a decision will be made and the person concerned will be notified directly of the outcome.
Under Social Welfare legislation, decisions in relation to claims must be made by Deciding Officers and Appeals Officers. These Officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
