Under the regulations that I laid before the House on 30 January last, all reports arising from the general inspection programme for schools will be published where the inspection commenced on or after 6 February 2006. Where reports are eligible for publication, a draft report is issued to the principal, chairperson of the board of management and, where relevant, the chief executive officer of the vocational education committee for factual verification. Subsequently, the final report is issued to the school so that the board of management may, if they wish, make a formal school response to the inspection report.

Since 6 February 2006 reports arising from a total of 61 WSE inspections have been issued to schools. Reports arising from 41 of these evaluations have completed all stages of the process and were published on the website of my Department by 29 June 2006. The latest information available to me shows that reports arising from 8 inspections are with schools for factual verification and that reports arising from 12 inspections are at the school response stage. Reports arising from 40 further WSE inspections, undertaken in schools mainly in the period April-June 2006, are being prepared for issue to schools for factual verification at the beginning of the new school year.

The procedures for publication of reports are outlined clearly in the "Guidelines on the Publication of Inspection Reports" which were published by the Inspectorate earlier this year. These guidelines along with up-to-date information on the numbers of reports and lists of published reports are available on the website of my Department (www.education.ie) at any time.
