Question 163: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children her proposals in regard to the consequences of alcohol and nicotine consumption during pregnancy by the mother on the health of the unborn child and on post birth development; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A study on the use of alcohol, nicotine and illicit drugs during pregnancy has recently been carried out at one of the country's largest maternity hospitals. A report outlining the findings of the study has now been received by my Department and is currently being considered by officials.
