Question 26: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the ratio of cardiac surgeons, dermatologists, rheumatologists, neurologists and other specialties to population are far below ratios in other developed countries; the number of each of the above specialists and the regional breakdown; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy will be aware that the management and delivery of the health and personal social services is now the responsibility of the Health Service Executive. This includes responsibility for the appointment of additional hospital consultant posts. Therefore, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to respond to the Deputy in relation to the issues raised and to provide the information requested.
