Question 84: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will ensure all workers currently involved in projects undertaken by semi-State companies which are the responsibility of his Department, are receiving pay and working conditions that fully comply with all aspects of employment law here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The issue to which the Deputy refers is a day-to-day operational matter for the Management of the semi-state companies and for contractors and subcontracts who are direct employers. I have no immediate function in this matter.
My Department has, however, requested the commercial state bodies under its aegis to confirm that they have procedures in place to ensure all contractors and sub contractors employed by them are compliant with labour law and are abiding by terms as may be covered by relevant industry agreements. I am also ensuring the non-commercial state bodies under the aegis of my Department are requested to confirm their compliance.
