Question 525: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will exempt the post of tenant liaison officer at Carrick-on-Suir Town Council from the public service recruitment embargo and allow the appointment of such an officer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Government policy on the control and regulation of numbers in the public sector, including local authorities, was announced in the Minister for Finance's Budget statement of 7 December 2005. I am keeping the overall position in the local government sector under regular review. As regards an individual post in a local authority, the County or City Manager is responsible for the staffing and organisational arrangements necessary for carrying out the functions of the local authorities for which he or she is responsible.
