Question 157: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the reason there is such a backlog of applications not approved for the special housing aid for the elderly in the Health Service Executive western region; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there are many elderly people waiting almost two years for approval; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. This includes responsibility for the provision of the Housing Aid Scheme for the Elderly, on behalf of the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. Accordingly, the Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
