Question 264: To ask the Minister for Education and Science when funding will be provided to enable a sports hall (details supplied) in Dublin 8, which was originally built on the understanding it would be opened up for the use of local community groups, to be properly staffed in order that it can be so opened up; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department has provided funding in excess of €34m for the construction of nine dual use halls with enhanced facilities, attached to post-primary schools. Eight of the halls, including the hall referred to by the Deputy, are in Dublin and one is in Cork. The halls in question have been built as part of a joint programme to develop community sports facilities in drugs task force areas and, accordingly, issues relating to the funding, management and staffing of the halls to facilitate community usage are being considered by my Department. Each school authority will be kept advised of relevant developments.
