Question 537: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of local authorities here that have by-laws to protect their graveyards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17913/06]

Local authorities have a general power to make by-laws under the Local Government Act 1994. The making of such by-laws is a matter for decision by individual local authorities and is a reserved function of the elected members. Details of the number of local authorities who may have made by-laws in relation to graveyards are not available in my Department.
