Question 225: To ask the Minister for Finance the status of the mobile telephony transceivers at Ardee House, Dublin 6; the outcome of discussions with the operators of these devices since his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 176 of 15 December 2005; if the hold on granting of further installation licences implemented by Office of Public Works in sensitive areas is still in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The two mobile phone operators, who have equipment installed on Ardee House, have not complied with the Commissioners of Public Works request to deactivate their equipment.

The Commissioners requested the companies to deactivate their equipment on Ardee House pending the report on the Interdepartmental Committee on the Health Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation.

The companies refused to comply with this request and provided they continue to comply with the terms and conditions of the licence agreement, the Commissioners have no contractual basis for insisting the equipment be deactivated.

The companies have not been granted any further licences in respect of State owned buildings since December 2005.
