Question 120: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the steps he will take to have an appeal against a refusal for a work permit by a person (details supplied) expedited as all the necessary information in relation to statutory requirements have been submitted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. It is Government policy that employers should be able to source their workforce needs from within the European Economic Area, except in cases where high levels of skills and qualifications are required for the job and such skills are not available within this area.

An application for a work permit in respect of the individual concerned was received on 3rd April 2006. A decision was made to refuse the application on the grounds that it was not a highly skilled highly paid position. The employer was notified of the decision in writing and of his or her right to appeal the decision.
