Question 98: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the discussions or negotiations he has had or intends to have with Greencore plc., regarding the possibility of utilising the Mallow plant to provide raw material to produce ethanol from sugar beet or other such energy crops; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have had no discussions with Greencore plc., on the issue of utilising the Mallow plant to produce ethanol. The potential for using the existing facilities in Mallow for such purposes is ultimately a commercial decision for Greencore plc. The new biofuels excise relief programme, which is subject to State aid approval, will provide a framework in which potential developers can consider such options.
