Question 367: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his views on an application from the centre for Irish emigrants, Camden Town, London, under the dormant accounts scheme for assistance to provide lift facilities for wheelchair and disabled people; his further views on whether many emigrants contributed to the moneys lodged in dormant accounts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Decisions on the disbursements of funds from dormant accounts under the initial round of funding were a matter for the dormant accounts fund disbursements board, an independent body established under the dormant accounts Acts. In overseeing the initial round of funding, the board decided that only applications from within the State would be eligible. I understand that the London Irish Centre applied to the board for assistance from the fund under the initial round of funding but were advised in January 2005 that their application was ineligible.

With regard to whether emigrants contributed towards the moneys lodged in dormant accounts, I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 148 on 9 March 2006.
