Question 297: To ask the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the status of the decentralisation of Fáilte Ireland to Mallow, County Cork, in view of the fact that no member of the existing headquarters staff has applied to the CAF for a transfer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Fáilte Ireland has been selected under the Government's decentralisation programme to relocate to Mallow, County Cork. However, it has not been identified as an early mover by the decentralisation implementation group, DIG. No existing members of Fáilte Ireland have opted to relocate to Mallow at present but 83 applications have been received under the central applications facility, CAF.
My officials have recently met representatives of Fáilte Ireland and emphasised that their full commitment is required. Fáilte Ireland is currently working on a reiteration of its decentralisation implementation plan and is pursuing the matter of the acquisition of a suitable site with the Office of Public Works, OPW.
