Question 885: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of adult school wardens who are employed in each county; if the county councils are prohibited from recruiting additional adult school wardens unless they drop a job somewhere else from the council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of school wardens employed in each county and city, as returned to my Department in the 2004 annual staffing returns, is set out in the following table. As regards the recruitment of school wardens, this is a matter for each county and city manager, who is responsible for the staffing and organisational arrangements necessary for carrying out the functions of the local authority for which he or she is responsible.
