Question 859: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if legislation exists requiring safety guidelines to be met before the opening of a private and leisure centre swimming pool; his plans in the next six months to introduce new legislation creating or tightening the safety guidelines required to open a private or leisure centre swimming pool; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 858 and 859 together.

Safety recommendations for swimming pools were issued by my Department in 1986. At the request of my Department, the Irish Water Safety Association is reviewing those recommendations with a view to producing more modern and comprehensive guidance.
