Question 794: To ask the Minister for Education and Science her views on introducing a system whereby recognition would be given to prior experience in other employments in the increments paid to teachers, in order to encourage recruitment of people into teaching who would bring a new range of skills and experience into the classroom; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A scheme already exists whereby a teacher may receive incremental credit for relevant non-teaching experience. The criteria for the award of incremental credit under this scheme are outlined in primary circular 10/01, Amendments to the scheme for the award of incremental credit, which is available from the primary payments section of my Department or on my Department's website.
