Question 589: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his views on the amount of litter on roads and in particular on the M50 and M1 in Dublin; the measures he is taking to deal with this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9382/06]

Under section 7 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997 it is a matter for each local authority to ensure that public roads, including motorways in its functional area, are, so far as practicable, kept free of litter.
